# Why I use WaterLase for fillings and bond preparation

## A biomimetic and biological approach

When a tooth needs a filling, my aim is simple: keep as much of your natural tooth as possible and create a restoration that works with it. That's why I use laser technology, the BIOLASE WaterLase, when preparing teeth for fillings and bonding.

## What do "biomimetic" and "biological" mean?

- **Biomimetic** means working in harmony with your natural tooth structure.
- **Biological** means respecting your body's tissues, nerves and healing.

Rather than removing more tooth than needed, the aim is to support the tooth, not fight it.

## Why I use WaterLase to prepare fillings

### 1. It helps conserve healthy tooth

WaterLase removes decay precisely and conservatively, so more healthy enamel and dentine can stay in place. Keeping more natural tooth helps it stay stronger over time.

### 2. It's gentle on the nerve

A traditional drill creates heat and vibration. WaterLase uses laser energy with a cooling water spray, which is gentler on the nerve and can mean less sensitivity afterwards.

### 3. It prepares the surface for bonding

The laser cleans and conditions the tooth surface at a microscopic level, which helps the bonding material penetrate and seal well. In biomimetic dentistry the strength of that bond matters, because it helps protect the tooth from cracks.

### 4. A good seal helps protect against new decay

WaterLase reduces bacteria in the area being treated and leaves a clean surface for bonding, which helps reduce leakage and decay forming under the filling.

### 5. Sometimes no injection is needed

Many patients find treatment more comfortable, and for some smaller fillings we may need less anaesthetic, or none. We'll always discuss this with you first.

## Why this matters for your teeth in the long term

A filling that isn't well bonded can act like a wedge and weaken a tooth over time. A laser-assisted, biomimetic bond lets the tooth and filling work together, closer to how a natural tooth behaves.

This approach aims to:

- reduce the risk of cracks and fractures
- help your natural tooth last
- delay or avoid crowns and root canal treatment where possible

## My philosophy

I don't believe in "just fixing holes". I believe in preserving teeth, protecting nerves and respecting biology. WaterLase is one of the ways I bring together technology, gentle dentistry and long-term thinking, to help keep your smile healthy for years to come.

Every tooth is different, so at your appointment I'll examine it and explain what I recommend and why.
