This may suit you if…

  • Your child is due for a first visit or check-up
  • You've noticed a dark spot, chip or sensitivity on a tooth
  • Your child is nervous about the dentist
  • You'd like advice on crowding, thumb-sucking or mouth-breathing
We go at your child's pace.

A first visit

We suggest a first visit around your child's first birthday, or when the first teeth come through. It's short and relaxed: a look at the teeth and gums, and advice on brushing, diet and teething.

  • Check-ups
  • Fluoride
  • Fissure sealants
  • Brushing advice

Prevention

Regular check-ups, gentle cleaning, fluoride and fissure sealants help protect new teeth from decay. Sealants are a thin protective coating painted onto the grooves of the back teeth.

Baby teeth hold space for the adult teeth.

Treatment when it's needed

Baby teeth hold space for the adult teeth, so decay in them is worth treating. We use tooth-coloured fillings and explain each step to your child first.

Dr Aneesa Mohamed has extensive experience treating children, including treatment under conscious sedation and general anaesthesia when it's needed.

  • Crowding
  • Thumb-sucking
  • Mouth-breathing
  • Myobrace assessment

Early orthodontic advice

If we notice crowding or habits such as thumb-sucking or mouth-breathing, we'll talk you through whether early treatment such as Myobrace, or clear aligners for older children and teens, might help.

FAQs

Questions answered.

When should my child first see a dentist?

Around their first birthday, or when the first teeth appear. Early visits are mostly about getting comfortable and preventing problems.

Do baby teeth really need fillings?

Often, yes. Baby teeth hold space for the adult teeth, and untreated decay can cause pain and infection. We'll explain the options for your child.

How can I help my child feel relaxed?

Keep it positive, avoid words like "hurt", and bring them along to a family member's check-up first if you can. We'll go at their pace.

What are fissure sealants?

A thin protective coating painted onto the grooves of the back teeth to help keep out food and bacteria. It's quick and doesn't involve drilling.
